Google is currently developing a new feature for its Gboard keyboard app on Android that will allow users to generate images from written text using advanced artificial intelligence. This upcoming feature is known as "Imagen Keyboard."
Although not officially announced yet, references to Imagen Keyboard were found in the source code of the latest Gboard beta version, suggesting that its release is near, according to 9to5Google.
The feature is expected to appear in the shortcut bar or the main interface of the keyboard, alongside existing options like the Clipboard and One-Handed Mode.
Imagen Keyboard works similarly to OpenAI’s DALL·E 2, enabling users to create visuals based on text prompts. It leverages Google’s own Imagen AI model, which is still in limited use and not available to the public at large.
This tool uses advanced AI algorithms to understand textual content and generate corresponding visual interpretations, making it easier for users to communicate ideas visually.
The introduction of Imagen Keyboard aligns with Google’s broader efforts in the AI space. The company is reportedly developing over 20 AI-based tools, including a wallpaper creator for Pixel devices, a video summarization tool, and a video generator.
As competition from tech giants like Microsoft and OpenAI intensifies, Google is accelerating its AI innovation to maintain its leadership. Imagen Keyboard could become a significant step forward, helping users express themselves creatively while enhancing the overall functionality of Gboard.
While an official launch date is still unknown, the development clearly indicates Google's commitment to delivering innovative, AI-powered experiences.
